5 common webcamming myths that every model should know, from a former cam girl

Lets face it, there are so many misconceptions out there surrounding webcam modelling work.

For people who have never been involved in the industry, it’s all too easy for them to assume and circulate rumours which are completely false!

Read on to find out 10 of these common myths and the truths behind them.

1. Being a webcam model isn’t a proper job

Being a webcam model is 100% a proper job if you want it to be!

Camming can be whatever it is you want it to be. Some models cam purely for the fun and the thrill of it, or to connect with likeminded people, the money is just a nice extra. Some models will cam to top up their income, they may already have a full or part time job and would like a fun way to top up their cash.

So many models however, do cam as their main or only source of income. If you put enough time, thought, planning and enthusiasm into it, it can be an extremely rewarding and a very profitable source of income. There are so many things that you can do to go alongside camming, such as selling various items or videos and photos, that you can setup a really good business all while being your own boss and being in charge of the work you do everyday.

Webcam modelling is absolutely a proper job, so make sure you check the legalities in your country and are paying taxes on your earnings if over the threshold.

2. You have to be the ‘mainstream’ type of pretty and look like a glamour model

Ok so this is what some of the clients out there are looking for but by no means all of them! It’s so important to be yourself and let your own looks and personality shine through.

Some clients may want to really connect with you socially. Enjoy a laugh and joke with you. Some others may be desperately lonely and want to talk about everyday things with you, they want a virtual friend.

Some have some really niche kinks that only certain performers can provide for them.

They might have a thing for blue hair, or they like the girl next door look. Some like pubic hair and some don’t. Some like the natural just rolled out of bed look, and the really glamorous kind of style is a real turn off for them.

There is no one type when it comes to successful cam girls, and I can assure you the most successful ones did not get to the top on their looks alone.

Be yourself, that’s when you’re at your most confident and attractive, and that is what will draw the crowds in, people will crave just being in your presence.

So no matter your looks, aesthetic or kinks, be your true self always!

3. You can’t be a webcam model and be in a relationship

Speaking from experience, it’s totally possible to be in a relationship while being a webcam model!

Plenty of cam girls are in happy and healthy relationships. Some may even find it spices things up, and has helped introduce some new kinks into the mix.

I’d say the main point here for any serious or long term relationship, is that it’s important to be honest and upfront with your partner as early on as possible and throughout the entirety of the relationship.

Your partner may like to be involved and hear all about your day. They may like the thrill of getting first view on your new material and outfits. There’s also a chance they might like to get involved, if that’s something you both want, you could even consider setting up a couples account and start camming together.

It’s up to you how involved you want your partner to be, you may want to keep things completely separate and keep their involvement to a minimum. Your partner should not push themselves into your work if you’re not comfortable with this. Again being open and honest about this with them will ensure you are both on the same page about your needs and wants.

There is always the chance due to the nature of the work, that your parter or potential partner may not feel at ease and may be confused at your choice of work. This is ok too, and however they feel on the subject is completely valid. As long as the communication is there you can try and work on any issues and decide on the future, or not, of that relationship.

4. Friends and family will definitely find out.

This is simply not true!

Most, if not all camming sites will have an option to block certain areas or countries, which is a feature I would always use! So you can block your hometown or any other places you have ties with.

You can hide your face in your public pictures. Never, ever discuss or give away your location or anything that would hint to where you are, and keep your security up to date on your devices to help protect against hackers.

The chances of some one you know accidentally stumbling into your room are going to be very low, but never impossible. So if your anonymity is of vital importance to you for whatever reason, this is something to consider.

5. Webcam modelling is quick and easy money

Honestly sometimes yes, sometimes no!

Some days you’ve just got it, you have a figure in mind you want to make before you turn off for the day, and you’ve made it within an hour. On the other hand, that same figure on a different day, you’re struggling majorly to reach after sitting on cam for hours and seemingly getting nowhere.

There are so many factors that can determine how much money you make and how quickly you make it on any given day. Factors such as what time of day you’re camming at and on which day of the week can effect how many clients are online waiting for you at any given time.

Your mood and how you’re feeling on that day may effect how you interact with clients, wether that’s consciously or subconsciously. As with all jobs some days we’re more into it than others. If you find yourself sitting on cam for hours getting nowhere fast, sometimes the best thing to do is to take a break and come back refreshed with new energy.

The more research you do and experience you gain, the more you can predict and see what works. For example, when good times to cam are, which of your best clients are online at what time, and the kinds of shows that are or aren’t popular with your clients.
